Ayahuasca is a native potion composed of two Amazonian species; one is a vine which is referred to in Iquitos by the same name as the finished product: Ayahuasca (scientific name: Banisteriopsis Coapi), and the other leaves of the Chacruna bush (scientific name: Psychotria Viriclis). Consumed together extracts of these two botanical components create a synergistic mix which produce astounding results in the body, mind and spirit: Visions and perceptions of the energetic field of the forest, telepathic states and the greater opening to intuitive knowledge.

This mystical brew cures by purging impurities of all kinds from the physical and subtle bodies of the person who partakes of it. The indigenous people of the Amazon believe that Ayahuasca teaches us how to live in harmony with nature revealing hidden dimensions of our world, permitting us to communicate with our ancestors, spiritual teachers and even with the “mothers” of the plants and animals of the forest.

For a beginner, it is important to be under the supervision of a master shaman to avoid any discomforts or unpleasantness associated with the use of this powerful medicine. It is also advisable to fast before taking the brew, the effects of which generally last three to four hours. While under the effect, the participant is supervised by the shaman, who uses his “icaros” or magical melodies to modulate the participant’s visions, in this way helping them to overcome difficulties during their journey.

The AMAZON RAINFOREST LODGE offers the ideal setting for the Ayahuasca experiences, with a purpose-built Ayahuasca ceremonial space (Tambo) and several experienced shamans to choose from.

Note: The AMAZON RAINFOREST LODGE only offers the lodge as a place to carry out the ceremony. It does NOT carry out the ceremony itself, nor do any shamans work for the company. Any contact betwen the tourist and the shaman is direct, as is the payment by tourist directly to the shaman. We hold no responsability for any mishaps which may occur during the ceremony.
